Shabby Cottage upcycled home decor for SPRING!
Here are our four thrifted items we will be giving makeovers to today.
These upcycled home decor pieces were inspired by the beautiful vintage treasures above. The crisp white, fresh shade of green, accents of gold & a bit of pink! With just a touch of whimsy added!
Wooden Taper Candle Holders – listed $9.99
Brushed on a coat of white paint followed by my “sage green” paint mixture on the trim. Then covered with one coat of “DIY textured paint” and then distressed to allow the sage green to come through w an aged look. Lastly, a touch of gold paint along the top rim!
This was a fun, quick & easy upcycle project & now this set is ready for a new home!
Ceramic Casserole Pot with lid– Kept for my home (planter)
I rescued this piece off the thrift store shelf after my third visit of it still being there.
I sprayed it with two coats of matte sealer to help the paint mixture adhere and not chip off. For more information on this technique head over to my post DIY Faux Concrete on Home Decor!
I followed up two coats of the textured paint with some dry brushed on the sage green, a stripe of pink, & some gold trim! I did spray the inside with a coat of white matte spray paint & I applied two coats of spray sealer to complete the piece.
Upcycled Mini Clay Plant Pots – listed $14.99
I never pass up a good deal on clay pots of any size! I scored this 4 piece set for $2 while out thrifting & I couldn’t wait to give them a new look!
Just two coats of white matte spray paint, dry brushed sage green along the top & sponge brushed on some gold trim. I used my typesetting stamps & ink pad from IOD & stamped out the letters to spell “GROW”.
This set is ready for a new home & to hold some plants!
Silver Plated Tray with Handles –
I thrifted this tray over the summer & it started as a different project that wasn’t going like I planned so it has been packed away since then. The silver covering was peeling off the handles so it needed a fresh new look.
Two coats total of white spray paint. Dry brush on the handles with my mixture of “sage green” paint, sponge brushed on some gold acrylic paint accents, and added a rose image.
Heading over to TheGraphicsFairy.com it was super easy to find this beautiful vintage rose image that I printed out on tissue paper.
See my post How to Give an Old Platter a New Look! For more details on how to print your own paper for decoupage.
This tray was finished with two coats of Poly Acrylic to help seal it.
